Why should I take placenta capsules?

I took my training (through PlacentaBenefits) and started encapsulating placentas as a way to round out my doula services. I believed that what I learned about the benefits of taking placenta capsules was true .....

.... scientific research on the benefits of ingesting your placenta ....

Your placenta. Made by you. Made for you. Taken in pill form it is believed to:

be a perfect after-birth multivitamin and balance your system

It contains:
• Gonadotrophin: the precursor to estrogen, progesterone and testosterone
       • Prolactin: promotes lactation
       • Oxytocin: for pain and bonding; produced during breastfeeding to facilitate bonding of mother and infant.
       • Thyroid stimulating hormone: boosts energy and helps recovery from stressful events
       • Cortisone: combats stress and unlocks energy stores
       • Interferon: stimulates the immune system to protect against infections
       • Prostaglandins: anti-inflammatory
       • Hemoglobin: replenishes iron deficiency and anemia, a common postpartum condition
       • Urokinase inhibiting factor and factor XIII: stops bleeding and enhances wound healing

       • Gammaglobulin: immune booster that helps protect against postpartum infections

.... but it wasn't until I began to receive feedback from my clients that I became a true believer and advocate.  Every. Single. Woman had so many positives that she contributed to taking the placenta pills. They really do help with feelings of postpartum depression and "the baby blues". They really do help your energy return, despite the lack of sleep. They really do bring in milk faster. They really do help bring balance back to your body.

the process

I use the practice of traditional Chinese medicine in preparing and encapsulating your placenta. I hold a food safe level 1 certificate as well as an OSHA bloodborne pathogens certificate.

Once you give birth and the placenta has been inspected by your midwives or doctor, they can put it in a clean container, or zip lock type bag, and store it in the fridge. If you are birthing at a hospital you will need to bring a cooler to store the placenta in. Someone from your "birthing team" can call me right away (between 7am and 9pm). I'll do my best to come by and pick it up that day and have the pills back to you within 24hrs. That way you will be ingesting the placenta within 48hrs of giving birth.

$100 for those who are also my birth doula clients or $200 for those who just need the encapsulation services -

*fees include pick up and delivery in Greater Victoria and approximately 80-150 capsules (depending on the size of your placenta). I offer size 00 clear, unflavored vegan capsules or size 00 purple, grape/berry flavored gelatin capsules. (I can potentially deliver further out for an added fee. Contact me to see if this can be arranged for your location.)

Feel free to contact me with any of your questions.
